How to Start a Video Project

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

Simply reach out to us a [email protected]. We're always happy to have a conversation no matter where you are in the process or how soon you are looking to film.

What should I prepare for a kickoff call with Lightswitch?

First and foremost, we're happy to talk through your ideas and what you want to make. If you'd like a starting place, we put together an article on what to expect from a kickoff call with us.

In a regulated industry? Here's how to navigate creative compliance when thinking about your video.

What kind of videos can you produce?

Our dedicated producer meets with your team to determine your goals and helps to put together a shoot plan to help you meet them. Whether that's finding the best voice actor, storyboarding animations, or sourcing a master puppeteer to control a parrot for a Fair, we go the extra mile to clearly showcase your specialty. We can produce ads for paid media, your website, social channels or anywhere else you would like to meet your audience.

Can you film in my city?

Yes. We have crews in all 50 states, all managed by our production team based in Chicago. A local vetted crew will come to film on site and then send the footage back to our editing team in Chicago to be sure the final piece is high quality, on brand, and compliant.

How long does it take to produce a video?

A very rough estimate is about 60 days from your first conversation with Lightswitch, to having a completed video ready to share. We emphasize thorough pre-production and want to be sure that when a crew is coming on-site to film they are making the most of their time there and producing a high quality piece you will be proud to share.

Can you help with the script?

Yes, we work alongside your team to craft a script that tells your story, while staying within compliance and brand guidelines

What about a storyboard?

Your producer can help you and your client determine if a storyboard is necessary for your project. If it is, we will work it into the custom scope of work and take care of it for them

Lightswitch has created thousands of videos - customized to specific clients - and can walk you through what the process would look like for you.

Do I or my team need to be filmed on camera?
